About this cause

BRIGHT supports research and treatment for gastrointestinal (G.I ) cancer patients. It serves the adult population diagnosed with G.I cancers within the geographic region of the former Surrey and Sussex Cancer network. Serving approximately 1.2 million people. We are based at St Luke's Cancer Centre. The GI cancers covered by BRIGHT include Bowel cancer and cancers of the stomach, pancreas and gallbladder. The population and grades of the cancer can be of different grades as detected by clinical identification. We work with patients and their families to identify their needs- whether it is raising cancer awareness, investing in clinical research or developing innovative treatments. We also emphasise increased awareness of screening, endeavouring to decrease future cancer incidence.

How this cause brings people in the community together

BRIGHT is hoping to produce a DVD of Papillon treatment. This will help educate people about the treatment which in turn will help them to make a more informative decision regarding available treatment options. The DVD will have a step by step guide to the treatment and also how BRIGHT has been able to fund both the Papillon machine and the DVD. The DVD will benefit those that have been diagnosed with Rectal/ bowel cancer the 3rd most common cancer in the UK and we are hoping to make this available nationwide. The DVD will involve the team at St Luke's cancer centre specifically the papillon suite team and also Dr Alex Stewart Clinical lead for oncology and Charity Chairman. The DVD will be launched in April at the Charity's annual papillon evening.
