About this cause

Gift to Nature is responsible for a variety of conservation sites around the Island, it is our mission to not only care for the Island’s wildlife but encourage everyone to get out and explore our fantastic countryside. We commission local artists to help us interpret the wildlife unique to each site with bespoke, traditional, as well as innovative installations. This year we hope to use the sites more actively to encourage public engagement by running a series of live events at rarely visited sites across the island. We will be working with local community theatre and performance groups to create opportunities to showcase their work and create some memorable cultural experiences that will entertain, inspire and generate interest in our local environment.

How this cause brings people in the community together

At the moment many of our countryside sites are difficult for wheelchair users to access. Next year, as part of our fundraising strategy we would like to hold some live theatrical events on some of our more hidden away sites. We think this will benefit the community by highlighting where they can go for days out in their local environment at little or no cost and by changing preconceptions of what the countryside can offer in terms of recreational activity. We would like these events to be as inclusive as possible but some of the sites currently difficult to access for wheelchair or users with limited sight as the terrain can be challenging. We have identified a need for tracking to assist access on and off the sites and believe it will make a difference to users with mobility challenges.
