About this cause

WHISH Is a parent-led small charity we support approx 160 children & young people in the Whitby rural area who have more than 40 different HIs, like autism, diabetes & epilepsy We provide: information & support for families; training for parents & professionals; parent support groups; family outings; activities for children & teenagers. funding will enable the young people to have a safe environment to socialise, learn new skills under qualified supervision and guidance, make friends and have fun. Participating in WHISH activities will enhance the health &well-being; improve confidence and self esteem, giving children with hidden impairments an opportunity to do things like their peers, to access activities most children can take for granted, learning & having fun together.

How this cause brings people in the community together

. Children & young people with HI are often isolated and marginalized within their communities. Many have communication difficulties and a limited social life. They are more likely to be bullied and often struggle interacting with other children, adults and the wider community. Children with HI often have difficulties accessing "normal" leisure and social situations, and are often unsafe and vulnerable in public situations. We provide a variety of youth group activities as there are very limited out-of-school activities for young people in Whitby with special or additional needs. The sessions will be run by professional and experienced leaders, supported by community volunteers
