About the Project
Working in partnership with the YMCA in Watford, this 6-week choreography project aims to support their residents by inspiring and empowering them, building confidence and self-esteem and instilling a sense of achievement to prove that they can fulfill their potential and kick-start a journey forward into a life without limitations. Facilitated by an enthusiastic and supportive dance professional, the 6-week project is participant led; working as a team they choose the subject matter, choose the music and create the moves. They will learn to communicate their thoughts, ideas and emotions through movement in a way that is accessible to everyone. Following previous projects, participants have returned to further education, work and some have even joined their local theater company.
About the Charity
Using dance as a catalyst for change we provide homeless individuals with the opportunity to progress beyond homelessness and fulfill their potential. Working across Hertfordshire we deliver choreography projects that inspire & empower participants, increase confidence & self-esteem and instill a sense of achievement & self-worth. Using various choreographic tools, participants learn to use their bodies artistically & creatively to transform their thoughts, ideas & emotions into dance. Unique to Dance Pad, as well as creating the pieces and performing them, participants are also involved in costume & stage design, marketing & production; learning new, tangible skills that are transferable into other work environments, thus aiding job opportunities.
