We want to by a van so we can pick up all donated food from supermarkets, and private donations from the public.
About this cause
We are a small charity started in August to help the Homeless, Needy and Destitute in our local community. We prepare and cook a evening meal and a dessert, and give hot drinks to whoever comes through the door, Monday to Friday. We also collect leftover food from Bookers, Morrisons, Tesco and Greggs, and we put this out on shelves for the service users to take away with them. we try to help anyone in the community who are struggling to feed themselves, and we get referrals from another local charity and the local life centre. We try to help people to get at least 1 hot meal a day and with the food they take away, they can also eat at whichever place they are staying. We are so passionate about what we do and feel we are making a big impact to peoples health and well being.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our service is essential to the local community because we are the only ones that are providing regular meals and food to those that need it. The disadvantaged in the local area either homeless or sanctioned, rely on us to get a hot meal, and food to take away to support themselves, when they have little or no money. We do not question the people that come through the door, or ask for money, and we hope that we are benefiting all who use us, and we see many regular faces, who return every night, because without us they would not get a meal. We desperately need transport to help pick all the donated food up, because we are having to use 2 volunteer cars at the moment, and these are getting ruined with all the milk, fruit and veg they carry.
