Marine in the Community

We would like to provide fortnightly heritage walking sessions for lonely and isolated people, and those with physical and mental health needs.

About this cause
We support our local community by tackling issues identified through consultation with users and potential users, and local, regional and national statistics. These include projects to tackle loneliness, isolation, lack of confidence and self-esteem, poor mental and physical health and wellbeing, pockets of poverty, child obesity, community safety, lack of education, unemployment and homelessness.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Before Covid-19, we piloted a walking group for older people. We remained in contact with the group and others throughout lockdown, with a weekly delivery of free meals. People said their mental and physical health and wellbeing had been affected and they couldn't wait to be "let out" again to rejoin our walking sessions. Five sessions would focus on targeted groups such as children and parents.
