We would like to create memory boxes of objects, organise virtual tours and use social media to take our museum out to groups of people who may not always be able to come and see us.
About this cause
Our museum preserves and shares the social, cultural, agricultural and industrial history of Alford and the Upper Donside area, helping the local community to develop a sense of identity. Run entirely by volunteers, we share our collections and their stories with local schools, care homes, reminiscence groups, local libraries and others. We are run by the community for the community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our volunteers, some of whom are older and live alone, have missed their museum work which allows them to interact with a wide range of people. This project would allow us to come together again to collaborate on new initiatives and virtual tours. These would benefit local schools and other groups which have been unable to meet. Our objects tell stories which encourage social interaction.
