About this cause
Isle of Wight Search and Rescue (WightSAR) are a team of 100% volunteers who are on call 24/7, 365 days a year to support police in searches for vulnerable and high risk missing people. The missing person could be someone with mental health issues or learning difficulties, or those suffering from dementia and memory problems. It includes those at risk of serious harm or worse. All searches are classed as an emergency and require a rapid response to achieve the best outcome. WightSAR works in partnership with other statutory and voluntary agencies including Hampshire Constabulary, Coastguards and the RNLI.
How this cause brings people in the community together
WightSAR welcomes volunteers of all abilities either as operational search technicians or support members who provide general support duties during a live search or join the fundraising team. A high risk, vulnerable missing person affects the whole community and seeing a rapid, professional response from WightSAR reassures the community that the best response is in progress.
