Help us remove people from drink & drug addiction, giving them healthy food & teaching them how to get back into the community.
About this cause
We serve hot, nutritional meals to 30 to 40 men and women every Tuesday and Thursday in Ness Bank Church Hall. We source our food from local retailers and supermarkets which has reached its sell by date but not its use by date. This food would otherwise be thrown away.We now provide IT training so tat our participants can access benefit claims and write job applications and CV's.Our most recent innovation is an Arts & Crafts workshop, which is proving very popular and therapeutic We help the homeless, socially disadvantaged, people with mental heath and addiction problems, as well as recently released prisoners. several participants now volunteer for us and we have transformed many lives and perceptions, one of the big difficulties is social isolation.and loneliness
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our participants used to spend all day on the streets, with really poor eating, and just all day drinking or drug taking. This project gives them access to local authority support and help, so the worst behaved do not wander around and have a safe haven with us twice week We have a Board of 7 and 58 volunteers, none of whom are paid. We work closely with other agencies, the Benefits team from highland Council, Signposting, citizens online, the Merkinch Partnership. We give It training as mentioned previously and run an arts & Crafts project. We give hope to the most wanting members of our community and have experienced cases of people getting out of the downward spiral and becoming responsible citizens
