Support in Mind Scotland has more than 40 years' experience in providing support and services to people affected by mental illness, including families, carers and friends. We believe anyone affected by mental health issues deserves compassionate and expert support. We believe that every individual has the right to be valued, and to share in the opportunities, enjoyment, challenges, responsibilities and choices of everyday life. We support people through a number of community projects, and this application would be specifically for the work of our resource centre in Sutherland, The Gatehouse. This service offers one-to-one support, group activities, outings, information sessions, outreach and peer support. We also provide voluntary work opportunities within the centre.
We work incredibly hard to make links with the local community by holding open days and connecting with local businesses, colleges and universities. This breaks down the stigma around mental illness, while boosting confidence and wellbeing. This project would empower our service users to learn new skills, take pride in their work and to develop a commercial aspect by creating a market garden.
