The Portree and Braes Community Trust (PBCT) aims to deliver projects which provide opportunities for local people to enjoy and protect the environment, celebrate local culture, stimulate the economy and take a leading role in the regeneration of the area. PBCT formed in 2016 and has to date secured thousands of pounds of grant funding for community services and facilities. To date these include, for example, mobile skate ramps, public toilets, a free illustrated town-map, a local picnic area and essential repairs to path networks. The trust also supports other charitable groups and work with local people to deliver regular community events such as beach cleans and sponsored walks. The board is made up of 15 volunteer trustees based in and around the local area.
Inspired by nature, local history and mythology, artists will work with the community to re-design the woodland space by Tigh na Drochaid in Portree. Using as many natural materials as possible, signage, seating and play features will be added to the space to create a new area for play, relaxation, recreation and outdoor learning.
