About this cause

The hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care to over 800 patients with a life-limiting illness every year. We run a 14-bed inpatient unit, providing 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week care, an outpatient wellbeing centre providing a range of rehabilitation therapies to patients, and a community team which supports patients in their own homes. We also support patients' families, helping over 1,000 individuals every year to cope with their caring responsibilities, and to support them through illness and bereavement. Our care was rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission in 2016. We believe that every life is precious and that quality of life matters at every stage of life. The hospice is a place to feel safe at the end of life and a place to thrive at all other stages.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Patients will work together in small groups led by a specialist therapist. Sessions will be run weekly, offering patients the chance to develop friendships with other patients who attend regularly and build up peer support networks. Two of the activities, 'Knit and Natter' and 'Plant and Potter' are social support groups bringing together patients who share a love of crafting or gardening.
