Our project will develop core curriculum activities, confidence and independent life skills for pupils by accessing our local community.

About this cause
Friends of Orchard Brae was set up by parents of pupils living with complex or profound disabilities and/or learning disabilities. We are dedicated to raising funds for specialist equipment, services and support to help enhance the lives of our pupils. We fund the running and maintenance of the school minibuses to enable the staff and children to access the community. Public transport is not set up for more than 2 or 3 wheelchairs at a time, so with our minibuses our classes cannot partake in day trips, ASN competitions, life skills training, work experience or sensory learning.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Funding travel for our pupils will enable access to local amenities including specialist ASN competitions, which are vital for community inclusion and self-confidence. Our senior pupils also access supported voluntary work experience at local charity shops, cafés and community hubs, helping to build their independence and social skills towards adulthood whilst contributing to the community.
