We aim to provide much needed outdoor sporting activities for disabled children from four years old and above.
About this cause
Shinfield Rangers FC is an FA Charter Standard Community Club with Clubmark status that aims to improve physical, social, technical and psychological development for all ages, genders and abilities in as many ways as possible, whether the beneficiaries are members of the club or not. We're not a big club, but we always try to do the things that bigger clubs should do but don't. This year, we ran regular free football sessions for girls in schools then ran a tournament for them, collaborating with the local cricket club to set up casual mixed football sessions for the over-30s unable to commit to a team, started a women's 11v11 team, became an FA Wildcats centre offering free sessions for 5–11 year old girls, and became an FA BobCats centre offering free sessions for disabled 5–8 year olds.
How this cause brings people in the community together
For most of our 25 children our sessions are the only outdoor sporting activity they have ever participated in as there is nothing else locally. Many of the parents are as isolated as the kids, and from ethnic backgrounds where it is unlikely that paths would cross otherwise. We bring together children with diverse but similar needs and give them a level playing field, safely and with fun.
