We’d like support towards the running costs of our weekly Balanced Lives group in Belmont to improve older people’s health and wellbeing.

About this cause
Action for Elders is a developing charity with an innovative solution to the health and social care challenge presented by growing numbers of people who are not ageing well:a programme to improve the wellbeing of older people,Balanced Lives. Our programme is delivered through weekly groups combining physical exercise and caring conversations. We’ve been working in Hereford since 2014 and now run three Balanced Lives groups in the city. The groups support local older people facing challenges including physical immobility, low mental wellbeing, and loneliness and isolation. Our vision is a society where all older people have the choice and empowerment to live active and meaningful lives. We deliver our vision through support which improves:Physical wellbeing,Mental wellbeing,Social wellbeing.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our Balanced Lives groups are highly successful at bringing together people from different genders, backgrounds and ethnicities to form new friendships. Participants are now meeting outside of the weekly groups, strengthening community bonds. June, one of our Belmont participants, says: “I talk to people who appear to be shy – and they talk to me. I feel I’ve become part of the community.”
