About this cause
ACCT helps improve the lives of young autistic people in Sheffield and their families. Our charity runs a weekly Acctivate group for 40 younger children on Saturday mornings and a Wednesday evening club for 30 teenagers, plus training and support for parents and carers, family days out, monthly swimming sessions and weekly football coaching. ACCT sessions provide a supportive environment where autistic children can relax and be themselves. Through participating in different arts, games, sports and other activities, they can develop their confidence and social communication skills, and learn how to understand and manage their condition, which gives them the chance to make lasting friendships.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Children with autism are often isolated, in distress that they are "different" and unable to understand why they have no friends. Once children start attending ACCT sessions, they find a supportive environment where they can relax and be themselves alongside peers, staff and volunteers who understand autism.
