About this cause
The Cycle-Smart Foundation promotes safer cycling and the wearing of helmets and reflective clothing for children up to the age of 14 years. We run a subsidised scheme where we supply helmets and lights to children living in the most deprived areas of the UK. The charity was founded by Angie Lee after she saw the devastating brain injuries and long-term disability suffered by children who were injured while out on their bikes and not wearing helmets. We work with councils and the police, and we operate a scheme called Helmet Watch, which awards a small prize to children who are seen out on their bikes and wearing helmets.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The helmets and lights will be distributed through the schools so no child will feel left out. We will also give our information leaflets to parents to instil the importance of children wearing a helmet.
