About this cause
The Log Cabin Charity provides a setting where children from the London Borough of Ealing who have additional needs or disabilities can socialise, grow and have fun. Some 300 children and young people aged 0–15 attend the sessions, including After-School Club, Holiday Play Schemes, Saturday Club, and Stay and Play sessions. Our services are inclusive, welcoming non-disabled children, so all can socialise together, make new friends and form friendship groups, regardless of ability. We also offer a free counselling service to young people aged 11+ and to adults. We aim to help children/young people with disabilities, who can't access ordinary parks and playgrounds, to make friends, have fun, learn new skills, and develop confidence, while providing respite for parents/carers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Many families who have children with severe disabilities or challenging behaviour have neither the resources nor the ability to take their children out; 57% of our users come from disadvantaged areas where they have no safe outdoor play space. By providing a safe, secure and fun place where parents/carers know their children will be cared for by trained staff we provide vital respite for families.
