Streatham Common Community Garden

We plan to make our raised beds amazing; filled with plants tended by people who struggle with bending or gardening without special tools.

About this cause
As a volunteer-led community resource, we promote food, gardening, sustainable living, good health and positive community interaction. We provide training in organic principles of vegetable and fruit growing for individuals and community groups through workshops, events and practical experience. Workshops include soil types, composting, seed sowing and natural pesticides. Events include bug hunts, hedge laying, BBQs and wassailing. Groups include homeless charities, a drop-in centre for asylum seekers and refugees, the library, an older people group and Mencap.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Raised beds will allow individuals and groups with mobility issues to fully contribute alongside able-bodied volunteers for the benefit of the community garden. With suitable tools and a community gardener who can reach out and guide people, we will build on the diversity of our community garden participants and create a legacy of knowledge within our broader local community.
