About this cause

10Radio is based at, but independent of, Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe, and provides a community radio service run entirely by volunteers. We aim to get the community involved in all aspects of broadcasting, as volunteer staff, presenters or as listeners, without prejudice to their age, sex, ethnicity, religion or sexuality. It provides opportunities for students to create and broadcast their own material and it gives young people, who had been having problems engaging with parents or school, the opportunity to show their ability to commit to activities. Identified 10Radio listeners include people with severe depression, plus one who had extreme OCD and found it almost impossible to engage in even the most basic social activity.

How this cause brings people in the community together

10Radio aims to make community radio all inclusive. New and up-to-date equipment would enable volunteers of any age or ability to train more easily, while presenters would be confident of quality broadcasting. Identified listeners with mental health issues would continue to feel that they are an integral part of the community, involved over the airwaves.
