We wish to buy equipment to run specialist exercise classes to help improve mobility, balance and overall well-being for the elderly.
About this cause
Our charity aims to relieve loneliness and isolation in the elderly people in Darlington. We focus on reaching out to the over 80's as socialising becomes more difficult as partners and existing friends die. We play a vital role of visiting people in their own homes who are unable to get out, arrange trips out and other social events, run fortnightly lunch clubs with activities. We improve our "friends" quality of life by combating isolation and loneliness through rebuilding social contact and giving practical assistance. As one of our "friends" put it, "I have made new friends and gained my confidence back, and I have dates in the diary to look forward to."
How this cause brings people in the community together
New friendship groups will be formed in the weekly classes. If the pilot scheme is successful we will look to grow the number of venues and classes across Darlington.
