About this cause

Parkside is a registered charity based in Aldershot and Farnborough that provides support services for some 230 children and adults with learning disabilities living in the local area. It was founded in 1963 by a group of parents who realised that support for families who had children with special needs was limited. We aim to provide the opportunity to develop individual skills and take part in activities within the local community. Needs vary from support with socialising, leisure activities, developing life skills, work experience opportunities and respite for other family members. By reaching out into the community, we aim to develop and strengthen links with local people and organisations, in an environment where everyone is involved and included.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our project is based in Farnborough Library. We have helped groups working with isolation and disabilities, as well as mums and babies. For this project, the trainees will be working with a women's menopause group, an elderly swimming group and former veterans.
