Dancing for Wellbeing runs weekly groups for older people with health and mobility problems who still live in the community. Some members are also widowed or caring for their partners. Our groups are ideal if you find mainstream dance or exercise classes too strenuous or challenging. What we do is very accessible. It’s not important to get the moves right, you can move at your own level, sitting or standing, and you don’t need a good memory. Our groups are great for company and friendship. We bring people together to dance, to sing, to chat and to have fun. It helps you improve your sense of wellbeing, not just physically, but emotionally and socially too. Dancing is good exercise for the brain as well as the body, it’s relaxing, it can really lift your spirits and make you feel alive!
In our groups, members feel a shared emotional connection with each other. This is through enjoying music and dancing together, sharing histories and stories, celebrating birthdays, having Christmas and summer parties, signing get-well cards for members who are ill and keeping in touch until they are able to return. Members feel they belong and are valued by everyone in their group.
