About this cause
Epilepsy affects 55,000 people in Scotland. We are here for anyone with epilepsy, their families, carers and employers. We campaign for change, as well as providing quality information and award-winning services. Our youth service in Edinburgh is in its 17th year and consists of weekly activities, residential weekends, one-to-one and group support and educational workshops. Providing young people with epilepsy with the opportunity to take part in motivating activities can make a difference to their wellbeing, which in turn can reduce the occurrence of seizures. Our youth development worker also delivers school epilepsy awareness workshops and assemblies. Last year, 90% of group members reported improved self-confidence and our youth worker spoke to 1,350 school pupils about epilepsy.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The youth group will be out in Edinburgh visiting activity centres and local facilities, meeting in public places and with partnership organisations to actively raise awareness of epilepsy. Our youth worker and assistant youth worker will be delivering school talks across the city and attending seizure clinics to reach out to isolated young people with epilepsy.
