About this cause
Faversham Pools is a registered charity which provides a high-quality leisure and recreation service for the local community of Faversham and beyond. Faversham contains neighbourhoods which are amongst the 20% most deprived in the country, and the area has high rates of obesity. Against this backdrop, Faversham Pools offers affordable exercise facilities to nearly a quarter of a million swimmers every year. The pools are used by local schools and community groups, for physio and rehabilitation, as well as by individuals and families. Organisations supporting adults and children with disabilities travel from across Kent to use our accessible facilities. A variety of classes welcome swimmers of all ages, from just a few months old to elderly people learning to swim for the first time.
How this cause brings people in the community together
LED lighting would enable us to open our outdoor pool later, enabling us to welcome more people for longer sessions. As well as over 27 local schools and community groups, we host an active swimming club, along with water polo and triathlon clubs who use our pools weekly. This would give them more opportunities, as well as the over 100,000 public swimmers who use our community pool each summer.
