Herts and Essex Community Farm is a community growing space located in Fold Croft, Harlow. We have brought back into use a derelict piece of land which had been fly-tipped for 25 years. We grow organic fruits, vegetables and herbs and provide the local community with access to fresh produce free of charge or for donation, and also aim to educate both children and adults in growing and cooking techniques. We donate produce to a local homeless charity Streets 2 Homes. We host regular volunteer days to maintain the farm providing local people with the opportunity to learn new skills and a welcoming space for social inclusion. We host a variety of events throughout the year free of charge or low cost to provide a community space which is inclusive for the local population.
The funding will allow us to run more volunteer days which bring people together, learning new skills and socialising in a friendly, warm atmosphere. Volunteers take home their share of the crop benefiting from nutrition, an improved sense of wellbeing and gentle exercise. We would also use the money to purchase gazebos to enable us to hold better events at the farm for all weather conditions.
