About this cause
GRASS was setup in 2003 as a resident led community not-for-profit volunteer group, its stated aims are to improve the quality of life for residents in the streets in Cliftonville West. GRASS has built a strong connection with the community through the wide range of events and activities we deliver to young and old in our community each year. Our calendar of events include Cliftonville in Bloom,Cliftonville Outdoor Cinema, Cliftonville Games and the GRASS Children’s Christmas party. Events are so important to engage the whole community here in Cliftonville as Thanet has the highest child poverty rates in Kent, and Cliftonville West is the hardest hit with 1,513 youngsters in poverty. Encouraging wellbeing community cohesion and reducing loneliness are at the heart of GRASS.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Greening our grey streets and bring the community together is at the heart of our project. We aim to replant a section of our community garden and bring plants to all areas of our densely populated streets with hanging baskets attached to our on street lighting to increase pride in our community.
