About this cause

The Pinewoods Conservation Group is a local Harrogate charity entirely funded by volunteers, grants and donations. The group’s aim is to promote the maintenance and conservation of the environment within the Harrogate area and especially the area known as the Pinewoods, situated between the Valley Gardens and Harlow Carr Gardens. They also work to promote and encourage the conservation of the natural habitat of wildlife in the area and to advance the education of the public in the use of the woodlands by encouraging them to participate in the management of the woods. To date we have reinstated footpaths, erected fingerposts & info boards and provided a binocular viewpoint plus wider enhancements of the woods, planting trees and bulbs and erecting bird & bat boxes.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The group is looking to repair the main footpath from Valley Gardens to Harlow Moor Road. At times of bad weather the path is not usable meaning that visitors and residents are not easily able to access areas of the woods. A number of options are being investigated to repair or resurface and the final approach will be dictated by funds available. It may involve the use of a private contractor supported by volunteers and other groups such as the Army Foundation and Scouts. The project is looking to be completed by spring 2017.
