We provide social dining as a catalyst for combatting loneliness and social isolation, particularly with the elderly. We hold our social dining events in community rooms of independent living communities for the elderly. Our volunteers prepare and cook meals every Wednesday and Friday, serving the meals at up to three Nottingham venues each day. Most of our venues are in areas of high deprivation. Most of our food is donated to us through Fareshare, and pick-up from Southwell Co-op twice a week. We charge a nominal £3 for our cooked two-course meals, with cold drinks and goodie bags (subject to availability). We provide work experience to students from local sixth form and colleges, to the long-term unemployed, and to elderly people wanting to make a difference by keeping busy.
Social dining is bringing people together from the local community to eat. We have a proven model which brings together over 20 people at a number of locations around Nottingham. We serve around 100 meals a week in up to five venues.
