About this cause
We are a community charity farm, where entrance remains free so that we are inclusive to all, although donations are encouraged. We have animals large and small, café, gardens and a play area. Also, we support more than 135 volunteers on site each week, many of whom have a learning disability or mental health problem. Many of these volunteers are marginalised and socially isolated. We offer therapeutic activities, as well as training in animal care, food and hygiene, customer care and horticulture. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach and create person-centred programmes for the individual volunteers, while monitoring their progression and outcomes. All feel part of our "farm family" as we offer a safe and supportive haven.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project brings together a really diverse group of people from the Nottingham community. Many of our volunteers are very isolated, so volunteering at the farm enables them to socialise and make new friends. They work alongside each other with personal mentors in the barn, gardens, café and shop, gaining new skills and confidence.
