About this cause

The team is completely comprised of volunteers from the local community. Our rescues are generally for those who are lost, or have a serious injury, in locations where the usual emergency services cannot reach. We cover a huge area of Devon and Cornwall, beyond Dartmoor, and we were first in the country to be trained to help people with dementia. Our sole purpose is to assist the emergency services with search and rescue operations, locally, regionally and, sometimes, nationally. Our specialist skills include search management and techniques, emergency medicine, search dogs and handlers, swift water rescue, and high-level rope access and rescue.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our team is made up of just over 50 volunteers who are from all walks of life, such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, youth workers, civil servants and retired folk. We also provide hill safety talks to Scout groups and provide first aid cover for community events and multi-agency events such as Ten Tors. Our rescue centre is located in the community of Roborough, Plymouth.
