Aberdeen for a Fairer World
Community Development
We want to organise a series of events to promote Fairtrade in the community surrounding the Bridge of Don Academy.
About this cause
Our main task, through our paid global learning advisers, is encouraging and advising teachers to bring global perspectives into their teaching of pupils (sustainability, the SDGs, rights, Fairtrade, global citizenship). We also put on events in and around Aberdeen promoting Fairtrade e.g. Fairtrade pop-up shops, support the Aberdeen Fairtrade Steering Group, and promote other global awareness-raising activities such as One World Week. (See our website http://www.afairerworld.org.uk/ for more details)
How this cause brings people in the community together
This will be for pupils of BoD Academy and local schools (parents/friends), local community, local churches (especially St Columba churches next door) and local businesses. It will make use of existing partnerships between groups/businesses and BoDA such as Rubber Atkins, Community Sport and Mains of Scotstown amongst others. (BoDA fully supportive; Cara Walkden is a teacher there.)
