Central Gosforth Scout Group
Young People
We want to charter a tall ship for a weekend away with the Scouts.
About this cause
Central Gosforth Scout Group has the objectives of the Scout Association. The group has Beavers (age 6-8), Cubs (age 8-10.5) and Scouts (age 10.5-14) at All Saints Church Hall as well as a second Scout troop at West Gosforth Scout Hall. Leaders run weekly meetings during term time for young people, following the scout programme which also includes activities e.g. tall ship weekends, camps, walks, bike rides, water activities etc. Participation and personal development is the focus, with a range of badges and awards to earn and recognise achievements. All leaders, helpers and executive committee members are volunteers. The executive committee members act as charity Trustees of the Scout Group, they have several roles including managing the groups finances.
How this cause brings people in the community together
On the Tall Ship the young people develop teamwork, mutual trust and gain awareness of the environment. They spend time in other people's company - cook together, eat together, communicate as a team. They take responsibility for their own actions and decisions and also understand the different needs and backgrounds of others They will learn the basics of sea navigation, safety and sailing.
