Charlton Athletic Community Trust
Health
We want to run residential trips for people in our community accessing mental health services, to improve confidence and reduce isolation.
About this cause
Charlton Athletic Community Trust uses the power of football to empower people to improve their lives. We work at the heart of the community in Royal Greenwich, Bexley and Kent, improving health, education and employment and reducing crime. We deliver a lot of our programmes at and near the training ground in New Eltham, including our Upbeats Down's syndrome football team, with a group of 40 children, young people and adults training each Saturday and many other opportunities. Our new classroom at the training ground will enable us to reach more young people not in education, employment or training. Our Next Steps mental health residential trips support local residents accessing our mental health progammes to build their confidence and reduce social isolation.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project brings people together who are socially isolated and encourages them to integrate more in the community - some of those who came last year continued to meet up on their own on their return, and others had the confidence to look for volunteer roles for the first time (e.g. in a charity shop).
