Friends of Markeaton Park are a registered charity with the main aim to promote the conservation and protection of Markeaton Park, Derby for the benefit of the local city community and visitors. Our focus is the management and restoration of the Victorian Walled Garden where we provide educational activities and events and the opportunity for people of all ages, ability and knowledge to come and garden in an environmentally friendly way. We particularly welcome groups from youth organisations and those who are physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged. We open the garden at weekends and one day during the week for anyone in the area to pop in and enjoy the peace and beauty of the location as they look at plants, stroll along paths by the flowerbeds or rest in the patio areas.
Our project brings people together by encouraging everyone into the garden as a visitor or volunteer. We have brownies, cubs, groups of disadvantaged young people and young apprentices and engineers come to learn and work together. Our older volunteers feel better from the exercise and working together in a friendly way. All our visitors appreciate the peace and beauty of the surroundings.
