Froward Point Coastwatch
Other
We want to install mains power and refurbish the electrical system at our coastal lookout station.
About this cause
We provide trained volunteers to act as Watchkeepers at a coastal lookout station at Froward Point overlooking Start Bay by the Dart Estuary. The volunteers work every day 365 days a year during daylight hours keeping a visual lookout for vulnerable watercraft, mariners, swimmers and walkers along the South West Coastal Path in Devon. We have 60 volunteers who spot people in trouble at sea or on land, plot their position on a chart or a map and report the situation directly to HM Coastguard. We remain available to co-ordinate the RNLI Lifeboat, HMCG Coastal Rescue teams, Police Fire and Ambulance services to locate and rescue those in peril. We have earned the title of Designated Facility for HM Coastguard and remain in close contact with them via VHF Radio or telephone.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We operate a VHF radio safety channel so that people at sea can call us. We need the generator to produce safe current and wiring to carry it to run our radios so that we can contact the coastguard and other rescue services such as the coastal rescue teams, police, ambulance and fire services.
