Beccles Lido
Sport
We want to re-line the main pool and upgrade the drainage system.
About this cause
Beccles Lido Limited, a registered charity, took over the open-air swimming pool in Beccles from Waveney District Council in 2009. After refurbishing the pool, site and plant, we re-opened in 2010 and have enjoyed 8 successful seasons providing healthy open-air exercise to an average of 40,000 visitors each season, regardless of age, race or disability. Our aim: to ensure that the community and visitors acquires and enjoys the physical and social benefits of swimming as a life skill. The Lido offers swimming lessons to every primary school in the area, as well as private lessons to adults, children and toddlers, aquacise classes and scuba tuition. The Lido offers a place to meet and socialise for youngsters and our older "silver surfers" and is a vital hub and symbol of the community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Beccles Lido occupies a unique place in the community for its role in providing a life skill along with healthy exercise in the open air. With the government encouraging everyone to take more exercise, Beccles Lido is the ideal place for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to enjoy the sport, to socialise and to improve social well-being.
