We want to use befriending activities to bring socially isolated neighbours together, to make people smile and reduce loneliness.
About this cause
Sussex Community Development Association Ltd (SCDA) works across East Sussex supporting community based projects aimed at addressing the needs of those most vulnerable in the community. This includes a family inclusion project and nursery, youth services, health and well-being services, employment support, advice services, older people's day centres, bi-lingual advocacy and support for victims of crime. Through local data, consultation and relationships within the local communities we identify gaps in local provision, co-design community led responses and aim to create integrative, holistic and sustainable projects. We are seeking funding to run a peer befriending project for lonely and isolated people in the community that will improve individuals sense of well being and belonging.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The focus of this project is to bring the most isolated people together, one to one and in small friendly groups. We will invite people to peer groups based on shared interests or geography and will support them to form lasting friendships through volunteer led activities. We'll be promoting the benefits of volunteering in the community and the values of neighbourliness and acts of kindness.
