About this cause

Dunfermline Junior Chorus (DJC) has around 100 children aged 7 to 18 years from West Fife. They rehearse as 4 age group choirs, performing Traditional, African, Gospel and Popular music in three concerts per year. They also perform in the two Christmas Concerts of Dunfermline Choral Union. DJC rehearses weekly in the Carnegie Music Annexe, with Concerts in the Vine Centre, Dunfermline. Choristers are enabled to develop their musical abilities, character and in performances. These help to inspire them in striving for personal and vocal excellence - to be the best they can be. The Choir is in its 13th season with most singers remaining with the Choir until they leave school. Mandy Miller, the Artistic Director, is dynamic and passionate about developing children's singing capabilities.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project helps by giving the 100 choristers new pieces to learn each year, and 300 members of public to enjoy their performance at each of the five concerts (1,000 to 1,200 people in total). In a typical year, 50 to 60 different pieces are performed. The purchases of these pieces enables a high proportion of new items in each concert, maintaining the interest of both singers and audiences.
