About this cause
Shaw Cross was founded in 1947 and has continued to grow its teams of rugby players from young tots through to open age with predominantly male players but 18 months ago an under 14s girls team was formed & due to the growing popularity of the game amongst teenage girls the club signed on over 30 players. This year the club boasts an under 14s girls team and an under 16s girls team. The club recognises that the girls who are currently playing in the under 16s and under 14s could well be in prime position to be chosen to play for their country in the 2021 Wirld Cup. Women’s rugby is growing fast and its the club's objective to grow with it at the same speed to be able to provide rugby to all age groups for female players as they do for male.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Rugby is a team sport. We encourage our teams to show discipline and respect to themselves, their team players and all others involved from coaches, parents and referees. We promote a sense of belonging and hope to provide the girls with life skills to make them all rounded Young adults. We bring the local community in supporting & fundraising the teams as everyone is welcome.
