Northumberland Cancer Support Group
Health
We want to book a venue and tutor to provide therapeutic art and craft sessions for those affected by cancer.
About this cause
The Northumberland Cancer Support Group is a completely voluntary self-help organisation, set up in 1986, to help anyone who has been affected by cancer. We recognise that a diagnosis of cancer can have a far-reaching impact not just on the person with cancer but also on their family and friends. We offer: A safe and friendly environment where people with cancer, their families and friends, can meet others facing a similar challenge. Meetings on the first and fourth Tuesdays of each month. A library of books and resources covering all aspects of cancer, including self-help techniques. Telephone support 24/7 Friendship and fun Workshops on a variety of topics. A residential weekend retreat once a year.
How this cause brings people in the community together
These sessions have proved very successful in previous years by bringing together those affected by cancer in a safe relaxed environment where they can share on many levels and have fun. The creative nature of art can be very therapeutic. The project also helps to promote the support group in the community and encourage those who feel isolated or in need of a listening ear.
