Glasgow NW Foodbank
Health
We want to ensure that the food parcels we provide are nutritionally balanced for the whole household.
About this cause
Blawarthill Parish Church facilitates the Glasgow NW Foodbank, which launched in May 2013, we don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. When people come to us, our focus is to eradicate their need for the foodbank, we signpost them to services relevant to their situation, for some we will make phone calls to help them while they are in the foodbank. We deliver food where clients cannot access the foodbank. We have 3 Foodbank centres: Blawarthill, Gairbraid and Ruchill Kelvinside.
How this cause brings people in the community together
some of those that we support say they would just do without and go hungry, while some would have had to turn to crime to put food on their table. The foodbanks strength comes from the support that we have from the community coming together collecting/donating food, and giving up their time to help the foodbank help our community.
