About this cause
The Neuromuscular Centre (NMC) provides specialist services and support for people affected by muscular dystrophy (md) a progressive muscle wasting condition which affects more than 70,000 people in the UK. MD is characterised by those affected having often complex physical disabilities, use a powered wheelchair and rely on others to care for them. NMC delivers the following core services; * ongoing physiotherapy which isn't available from statutory sources * vocational training and employment in an accessible social enterprise * regular respite breaks for carers * emotional support and practical guidance for people coping with the condition * accessible social activities for carers and people with md * use of an accessible gym which enables people to look after their own health
How this cause brings people in the community together
NMC is creating an accessible outdoor growing and gardening project which will bring together our local community which includes people living with muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular conditions. The project will create a platform for social interaction, this is vital as the target group experience isolation and exclusion related to living with a long term condition or caring for someone.
