About this cause

Paddles Blazing ASU is licensed by The Bridgewater Canal Company to conduct canoeing activities for Warrington East District's young Scout Association members in paddlecraft (Canoe and Kayak) activities on the canal. This is primarily off the Scout Campsite at Church Lane, Grappenhall. We deliver sessions on the canal throughout the season promoting fitness and well being to the scouts and a good element of water safety awareness. We also support Warrington West scouts who join us and occasional individual scout group canoeing sessions. We support adult leaders to gain permits to lead canoeing in the Scout Association and seek to develop some leaders into British Canoeing coaches, this then widens the benefit across the Scout Association notably in Cheshire.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The canoeing supports members in the district, plus the adjoining Warrington West District who affilate with us and visitors to the scout campsite in Grappenhall, who sometimes paddle on the canal. Paddling involves young people of both sexes working together and achieving developmental goals including British Canoeing awards, as a number of our volunteer leaders are British Canoeing Coaches.
