About this cause

Formerly GOPWA, Glasgow's Golden Generation has been providing care in Autumn years since 1948, making this our 70th anniversary year. We run 3 day centres in Glasgow, have an Income Maximisation Service which helps older adults apply for entitlements available to them, over 90 clubs and a Befriending Service. We aim to alleviate isolation, poverty and loneliness in older adults across Glasgow. A huge part of this work is done through our day services which see up to 80 older adults per day attending our centres. We are actively working to extend our Befriending projects to reach more older adults in the city. Our popular clubs are based on shared location, interests or former workplaces and the activities offered provide a lifeline to older adults.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our project will bring together older adults across the communities of Glasgow by providing support to our clubs which will allow them to continue. By bringing people together, we can help to prevent loneliness and keep older adults active in later life. By offering a varied range of activities, our groups encourage older adults to attend and this helps individuals and groups work together.
