About the Project
There is considerable support in the community including over 50 active adult volunteers. The current building is used by many local groups; book club, furniture restorer’s hobbyists, several groups for training & first aid. Community use of the new facility will go up as we will be able to offer a more practical modern and safe environment with disabled facilities.
About the Charity
The Scout Group provides a variety of fun, challenging & adventurous activities including camping, climbing, canoeing, archery, & pioneering to local young people aged 6 to 14 years. The Group is fund raising to build a new HQ to replace the wooden pre-war ex-Army hut. The current hut is very basic, poorly insulated and has no integral heating. The kitchen facilities & toilets are in poor condition. The hut is no longer considered viable and poses constraints due to size and lack of suitable disabled access. The Scout Group has approved planning permission for a purpose-built modern building. The new HQ will have a minimum life of 75 years and will be able to offer places to over 1,400 Scouts during this time.
