Kent Miners Festival
Community Development
We want funding to hire buses and help less mobile people to attend the festival.
About this cause
The Kent Miners festival will be in its 9th Year in 2018. The festival is a 1 day family event held on August bank holiday Monday every year. The event is free enter to the public and runs from 10am to 5pm. The festivals main objective is to celebrate, exhibit and involve people in the history of the Kent coalfields and mining heritage. We also host a health and well-being exhibit which allows local communities access to services and opportunities locally. Many ex-miners and their families will visit this event and provide artefacts, oral histories and stories that will have otherwise be lost or forgotten. This year we will be focusing on WW1 and how the miners and communities were involved during this time.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Co-Op was a large part of the lives of the miners & communities in Kent, thriving together as every pit village had a Co-Op. Being able to bring the local communities together for this 1 day free event, enables them to enjoy & participate in keeping the heritage & history alive for now & for future generations.
