About this cause
The Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea is a charity which, through fundraising, subscriptions, donations and legacies, supports the work of the hospital. For over 80 years the Friends have been working to benefit the hospital’s patients and staff. In addition to fundraising, the Friends have over 200 volunteers who provide hands-on support, running services and facilities within the hospital These include the shop, café, trollies, flowers, meet & greet, ward assistance and tending the garden. Over the past five years, the Friends have donated more than £1m to the hospital, supporting and enabling the purchase of major pieces of medical equipment as well as funding services and amenities to enhance the wellbeing of patients and staff.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The hospital cafe is run and staffed entirely by volunteers for the benefit of patients, their carers and staff at the Royal Marsden hospital, Chelsea. It is a vital part of the infrastructure as not only does it offer refreshments but also a friendly face and the opportunity to interact with other patients as well as volunteers.
