About this cause

We provide emotional support to bereaved children, young people and adults regardless of the nature of the death or the length of time since the bereavement. Our services include a helpline, email, face to face and group support as well as response to major incidents in our community. We have been providing services in the area for 30 years and currently have 32 local volunteers who serve the populations of Guildford, Waverley and Surrey Heath. Bereavement impacts on every individual and research shows that unsupported or unresolved grief can have long term effects on an individual’s mental and physical health. Bereavement support can help prevent serious health problems such as depression, isolation, the inability to attend work or school and to actively engage in the community.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Everyone experiences grief differently—there is no “normal” or “right” way to grieve but evidence shows that many bereaved people benefit from talking in confidence to someone other than their family and friends. Our facilitated support groups in neutral venues provide a safe environment in which local people can share experiences of the challenges of bereavement, and gain mutual support.
