About this cause

Based on the Isle of Portland, the Royal Manor Theatre is Portland's theatre, producing in-house plays and hosting a variety of external productions throughout the year. We are a registered charity run by a board of volunteers. We're always looking for people to join the theatre, giving plenty of opportunities to try anything from acting, stage management to set design and directing - there's a part for everyone at the Theatre. We have a junior play makers section that encourages children to get involved in the theatre whether acting or behind the stage. The annual pantomime is very popular and well supported by the local community. Our cosy venue is perfect to hire for many events or productions and the intimacy of our space allows a unique connection with the audience.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Portland has consistently featured in top 20% most deprived areas nationally for multiple deprivation, and Underhill, where we are based has markedly declined. The cinema club will mean people who might not otherwise be able to afford it will attend with others enjoying a film with refreshments. Our focus on engaging local communities who face barriers to participating and addressing local need.
